September 19, 2025 – Academic Staff Orientation Committee – Minutes

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 1:11 p.m.


The minutes of August 27, 2025 meeting were approved by automatic consent.

New Business

  1. Members took time to review the committee bylaws and ask any lingering questions.

Unfinished Business

  1. The committee finalized the date for the fall orientation presentation – it will take place on Tuesday, November 4th at 2:30 pm.
  2. We reviewed feedback collected after the spring presentation and agreed that we should set aside 75 minutes for our session to allow time to slow down, introduce ourselves, and take questions.
  3. The committee agreed to include announcements from NIAS, the ombuds folks, and about the general HR orientation date.
  4. We will also share language for promoting the event that is clear about the nature of our presentation – it is directed at academic staff and addresses issues specific to academic staff obligations and privileges, among other things.
  5. Stephanie will contact Tammy about promoting the session.

New Business

  1. Committee members will review the assignments from the spring session and select the sections we’ll each be responsible for.
  2. We will discuss any recommended changes to the presentation at our next meeting on October 17th.
