J. Szczepaniak-Gillece proposed adding a non-voting ex-officio member from Strategic Enrollment Management & Student Success to help keep that department informed about campus changes such as orientation, preview days, closures, and street work.
MOTION: to approve the document. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. - Recommendation to Revise the Faculty Workload Policy
C. Bilen-Green presented proposed revisions to the faculty workload policy developed by a committee over the summer. The revisions clarify workload expectations, define research-active and teaching-intensive roles, outline how to resolve disagreements between Executive Committees and Deans, and require unit workload policies to be reviewed at least every five years.
The committee suggested several edits to improve language and clarity, including refining descriptions of the three core faculty responsibilities (research, teaching/student learning, and service), addressing administrative roles such as department chairs in the workload model, maintaining the reference to Carnegie R1 institution status due to its impact on teaching load requirements under Act 15, and acknowledging factors like graduate student mentorship and class size in differentiated workloads.
MOTION: to approve the document as amended. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. - Recommendation of the Academic Policy Committee (APC) on Policies for Minimum Usage of LMS Gradebook
D. Clark presented a policy intended to improve security, ensure students can access up-to-date grades for advising, and create a single, secure system for grade information.
The committee suggested softening the language about security to acknowledge that no system is completely risk-free. D. Clark noted the policy’s submission to Faculty Senate may be delayed until the Canvas-to-PAWS grade pass-through issue is resolved, expected by spring.
MOTION: to approve the document as amended. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
