November 25, 2025  – Non-Instructional Academic Staff Subcommittee (NIAS) – Minutes

Present:  Stephen Appel, Thorsten Curcio, Christina DeSpears, Jennifer Herriges, Lynne Jones, Emily Kuhnen, Beth Lobner, Catherine Loomis, Nathan Schneiderman, Alexandra Trumbull-Holper

  1. Meeting called to order at 11:00 a.m.
  2. Announcements.
    1. Welcome new member — Thorsten Curcio.
  3. Old Business
    1. How Can I be of Service?
      1. The event went relatively smooth, but it was suggested that each person assigned to be a contact check presenters’ slides when they come in.
      2. We had conversation that, given shrinking staff, we should re-think our two main annual events (How Can I Be of Service and Taking Care of Business). Could we combine the two events? Could they take a different form (i.e., an updatable document)? Should we work on joint events with our instructional counterpart subcommittee or the orientation committee? Our homework for the next meeting is to look at the 2021 survey (under “Misc” in our Teams group files) and think on possibilities to discuss.
         
  4. New Business
    1. Co-Chairs: Thor agreed to take over as co-chair for Megan and Lynne volunteered to take over for Nathan. Both Megan and Nathan are leaving UWM before their terms are over. We wish them well and thank them for their service to this subcommittee and UWM.
      MOTIONS: to approve the Thor and Lynee as new co-chairs. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
