April 16, 2024 – Faculty Codification Committee – Minutes

  1. Meeting called to order at 11:00 a.m.
  2. Minutes of March 26, 2025 meeting approved as distributed. 
  3. Business
    1. Recommendations of the Academic Policy Committee to Revise the Academic Warning and Separation Policy
      D. Clark presented the document which renamed “Drop and Withdrawal” to “Warning and Separation” to align with other instutition and reduce negative connotations. Discussion focused on clarifying terminology, numbering, and procedures; addressing GPA/incomplete grade concerns; removing outdated CGS provisions; confirming L&S rules and academic forgiveness; and correcting minor errors. The document was approved as amended by consensus.

    2. Recommendation of the Faculty Senate Subcommittee on the Evaluation of Administrators (SSEA) to Revise the Policy for Faculty Evaluation of Administrators
      J. Boyland presented the revisions which propose attaching the self-evaluation to the final report so all components are kept together.

      The document was approved by consensus.
    3. Recommendation to Amend UWM Policies & Procedures Chapter A3.1: Honorary Degrees Committee Charter
      Secretary Reisel presented the document updating committee language to reflect the closure of CGS.

      The document was approved as amended by consensus.
    4. UWM Policies & Procedures Supplement to Chapter 6: Membership Consistency
      The SecU office requested committee feedback on stylistic choices and descriptions, asking members to review formatting and wording. Editorial changes should be sent to SecU over the summer for fall review.
  4. Other Business
    The committee thanked C. Galambos and S. Schanke, who are cycling off, for their work on the committee.
