1. Any Member of the University Community

    • Any member of the university community may propose a new policy, revision, or elimination
    • An Initiator is identified (e.g., Chancellor, Provost, or Vice Chancellor with oversight)
  2. Initiator

    • Designates a Responsible Party
  3. Responsible Party

    • Develops a draft policy or revisions to an existing policy
    • Circulates the draft to relevant stakeholders for input and feedback
    • Reviews and incorporates feedback as appropriate
  4. Secretary of the University’s Office

    • The draft policy is submitted to SecU
    • SecU reviews the submission for completeness and process alignment
  5. Legal Affairs

    • Reviews the policy for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies
  6. Policy Advisory Committee

    • Reviews the policy
    • May recommend approval or request revisions
    • Determines the level of governance review required
  7. Governance Groups

    • The policy is distributed to shared governance bodies as appropriate (Faculty, Academic Staff, and University Staff Senates)
    • Review period: up to 30 days (Procedure B (3))
    • Policies may be presented for approval or processed through automatic consent, depending on the nature of the policy or revisions
  8. UWM Administration

    • The policy is submitted for final administrative review
    • The Chancellor and Provost approve the policy
    • Approval period: up to 30 days (Procedure (C))
  9. Implementation and Publication

    • The policy is published in the official Policy Library
    • SecU ensures proper posting and recordkeeping
