Liquid Nitrogen Training September 3, 2026 12:30pm
Train to learn the hazards involved with using Liquid Nitrogen on September 3, 2026 12:30pm on Teams
If you will be or are working with Liquid Nitrogen you will need to be trained
This guidance applies to all UW-Milwaukee faculty, staff, and students who use Liquid Nitrogen or other cryogenic liquids in university facilities, including research and teaching laboratories. It is intended to ensure that inert cryogenic liquids are used and stored with proper training to use engineering controls and postings to safely handle cryogenic liquids.
A hazard analysis and implementation of necessary controls are expected and necessary to prevent adverse events when using these materials.
Cryogenic liquid hazard evaluation process will consider the following:
- Amount of cryogen present and how it is used and stored
- Size of the laboratory
- Room ventilation
- Failure mode assessment
After training you will be able to
- Understand cryogenic liquid hazards
- Follow the lab rules, policies and guidance
- Only operate systems for which they are authorized and trained
- Notify PI and /or Supervisor of any apparent safety hazard
