What happens during the Academic Year?
Tutoring: Tutoring is currently offered at two schools. Tutoring takes place at Hartford University School during school hours and Hmong American Peace Academy (HAPA) after school. Tutors go to the school they are assigned to and meet with students along with a school staff member in the classroom typically once or twice a week for up to 2 hours.
Field Trips: Field trips will expose students to colleges, careers and cultural experiences. Trips will take place on Saturdays and days schools are not in session. Students would be dropped off and picked up at UWM. Location address will be on the permission slip. Field trip calendar and permission slips will be part of the registration materials in the fall and emailed to parents for the spring session.
Workshops: Workshops will cover college preparation, academic skill building, critical thinking, communication, problem solving, time management, study skills, empathy, resilience and social-emotional skills. Workshops allow students to navigate complex situations and make informed decisions. Workshops typically take place on Saturdays on the UWM campus.
