Rationale

After implementing the revised policy for several years, it became apparent that it would be sufficient for certain Faculty Standing Committees to only report to the Senate once a year, as opposed to once each semester, due to the nature of their business.

Policy

Faculty Standing Committee Chairs and Chairs of administratively appointed ad hoc committees will provide oral reports to the Faculty Senate on the following schedule so that face to face communication can take place between the Senate and Faculty Standing Committees:

Monthly

  • University Committee (current practice)
  • Academic Planning and Budget Committee

Every Other Month

  • Physical Environment Committee

Once a Year

  • Graduate Faculty Committee
  • Research Policy Committee
  • Information Technology Policy Committee
  • Academic Program and Curriculum Committee
  • Admissions and Records
  • Academic Policy Committee
  • Athletic Board

The Senate Rules Committee will set the schedule of appearance of Chairs of the Faculty Standing Committees and administratively appointed ad hoc committees. Each year the Office of the Secretary of the University will alert the Senate Rules Committee to this obligation.
