Policy
Rationale
Effective in the 2018-19 academic year, UW-Milwaukee offers two distinct types of degree programs at the undergraduate level, bachelor and associate. The existing requirements for receiving University Honors are defined for bachelor’s degree programs only. This revision is to set requirements for receiving University Honors in an associate degree program. In addition, alterations were made to clarify graduates need to have a GPA of at least the cutpoint level identified to earn the related honors, which has been the practice to date.
Requirements
The requirements for receiving University Honors across the university are that graduates with a GPA of at least 3.80 receive Summa Cum Laude University Honors, graduates with a GPA of at least 3.65 receive Magna Cum Laude University Honors, and graduates with a GPA of at least 3.50 receive Cum Laude University Honors. These cutpoints should be based on a minimum of 60 graded UWM credits for bachelor’s degree programs and 30 graded UWM credits for associate degree programs, to be consistent with current policy.
This policy will go into effect for associate degree programs in the 2020-21 academic year. Until that point, the University Honors requirements established for the associate degree program within UW Colleges will be followed.
