Student Curation and Open Educational Resources: A World Languages Model

April 26, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm

“Student Curation and Open Educational Resources: A World Languages Model” is an online workshop for current and future world language instructors led by Dr. Kathryn A. Murphy-Judy (School of World Studies, Virginia Commonwealth University).

Wednesday, April 26 from 2-3:15pm – via Zoom

Dr. Murphy-Judy will share her innovative student curation model in conjunction with Open Educational Resources (OER). It is applicable to all languages and can be adapted to a variety of intermediate and advanced language and culture courses. Curation by students promotes not only their development of oral and written language proficiency, but also provides them with experiential learning opportunities that prepare them to use languages in real-world contexts and ultimately in professional capacities. OER and curation examples will include French, Spanish, German, ASL, Chinese and Russian.

Dr. MurphyJudy is Professor Emerita and Distinguished Career Professor of the School of World Studies, Virginia Commonwealth University. She taught the graduate level Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages for the VCU School of Education. She is the co-author of Language Teaching Online: A Guide for Designing, Developing, and Delivering Online, Blended, and Flipped Language Courses (Routledge, 2020) and has published extensively on second language acquisition and new technologies and media in education. She has also served on the boards of ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) and CALICO (Computer-assisted Language Instruction Consortium).

Registration is free but required: Register here.
