UWM Quilting Bee

April 21, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

graphic with UWM Quilting Bee infoUWM Women and Gender Studies, Center for 21st Century Studies, History, Art History, and the Student Union, with support from the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts and the UWM Libraries, are co-sponsoring a Quilting Bee on April 21st to complete a tapestry that was begun several years ago as part of The Exquisite Uterus Project. This event will be led by regional artists Heidi Parkes and Molly Hassler, with a handful of rotating, trained faculty, staff, and students at the Golda Meir Library (10am – 12:30pm) and at the Women’s Resource Center (1 – 4pm).  But everyone is invited to contribute a stitch!

If you wish to have a more extended experience than just providing a stitch or two, here’s a sign-up sheet that can be filled by anyone interested in sitting for 1-2 hour increments of the bee.

In association with the library venue (10:00 am – 12:30 pm), there will also be an exhibition in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons display cases, drawn entirely from the Book Arts Collection in Special Collections, entitled The Book as Quilt, which will remain on view through the end of the semester.
