The UWM Union Art Gallery is presenting Swinomish and Tulalip photographer Matika Wilbur‘s exhibition “Seeds of Culture: The Portraits and Voices of Native American Women,” November 16 through December 15. The exhibition is based on Wilbur’s 2023 New York Tims Best Seller Project 562: Changing the Way We See Native America, which combines photographs and stories of Indigenous people from each of the federally recognized tribes in the United States. In conjunction with the exhibition opening, Matika Wilbur will also speak on Thursday, November 16 from 6-7 p.m. in the UWM Student Union Ballroom.

In association with Wilbur’s exhibition and talk, this exhibition in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons presents selected photographs from her Project 562 publication along with other book works by Indigenous photographers, drawn entirely from the Native American Literature Collection in Special Collections.
