UWM Libraries Join Cambridge University Press “Transformative Agreement” with the Big Ten Academic Alliance

The UWM Libraries have joined an agreement between Cambridge University Press and the Big Ten Academic Alliance which provides access to more than 400 Cambridge University Press journals.

The arrangement supports long-term goals of making research articles immediately available online free of charge.

In addition, the agreement offers unlimited open access publishing across all Cambridge journals for UWM authors. Open access publishing costs are typically covered by Article Processing Charges (APCs) that are paid by the author and/or institution.

To be eligible for an APC waiver with Cambridge, articles must:

  • Have a corresponding author affiliated with UWM
  • Be an eligible article type: research articles, review articles, rapid communications, brief reports and case reports
  • Be accepted for publication in a Cambridge journal covered by the agreement
  • Be accepted for publication after January 1, 2023

This agreement represents a major step in the UWM Libraries’ initiative to support university affiliated authors in publishing their research to the widest possible global audience. As a “transformative agreement,” it encourages a move away from expensive, subscription-based publishing toward a more sustainable and open access model.

Among the benefits are immediate access to the UWM scholarly articles worldwide upon publication, copyright retention by authors, no additional financial contributions by authors, and automatic deposit of all affiliated articles into the UWM Digital Commons.

Additionally, this substantially expands UWM access to Cambridge journals, from 47 to 429 titles.
