Teaching Intercultural Transitions with Graphic Novels: an Educator Webinar

August 6 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

This event will take place on Zoom: register at this link. The event will be recorded and shared afterward with all who register.

This virtual program will introduce teachers to recent graphic novels about youth arriving to the United States from another culture. Presenters will share relevant titles for classroom use, and discuss curricular and co-curricular activities that draw on those materials to facilitate student engagement around immigration, cultural exchange, and building belonging.

Featuring UW-Madison Professor Sara McKinnon (co-founder of the Latine Comic Collective) and Audubon High School teacher Andrew Lazzari (history & restorative practices, Milwaukee Public Schools). The resources we’ll share are targeted for middle and high school grades (6th-12th) but all educators are welcome.

Virtual event details: Once you register through Zoom using the link above, you will receive an email with the link to join at the time of the event (search your inbox for “Teaching Intercultural Transitions with Graphic Novels: an Educator Webinar Confirmation”). Since the event is structured as a meeting (not a webinar), Zoom will not send you automatic reminder emails.

Contact Monica VanBladel (vanblade@uwm.edu) with any questions.
