2025 LRC Summer Internship Celebrates Student Creativity and Cultural Learning
The Language Resource Center (LRC) at UWM recently wrapped up its 2025 Summer Multimedia Content Internship, a four-week hybrid program designed to engage high school students in hands-on projects promoting Chinese language and culture. The internship was funded by the UWM Libraries OER Initiative.
From July 14 to August 8, interns Amanda Gross (Arrowhead High School) and Owen McCarty (Brookfield Central High School) worked 20 hours per week—combining in-person learning and remote work—to explore cultural topics and create multimedia learning materials.
Each week they focused on a different phase: training, research, production, and evaluation. The students explored LRC’s Chinese resources, visited the American Geographical Society Library, participated in a virtual Chinese café, practiced Chinese painting, and held discussions on classic films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Their final projects centered on Chinese Regional Cuisine and Chinese Painting—complete with interactive learning activities using tools such as Quizlet, VoiceThread, and H5P.
Faculty praised their work:
“Amanda’s slides and video look fantastic! What an incredible achievement!”
“Owen’s calm and confident demeanor really stood out—I even learned something new!”
The interns also reflected positively:
“This internship has been a very enriching experience.”
“The presentation skills I developed will definitely help me in the future.”
Both students plan to continue their connection with UWM through dual enrollment and ambassador roles.
Congratulations to Amanda and Owen for their outstanding contributions to the 2025 LRC Summer Internship!
