UWM IT has found that there are two versions of Copilot installed on university-managed Windows devices:
- Microsoft 365 Copilot is the supported version of Copilot Chat and has enterprise-grade security and compliance protections, allows for secure handling of UWM data and is aligned with the university’s identity and governance policies.
- Copilot is designed primarily as a consumer product and does not meet the organization’s enterprise security and data protection requirements.
On June 22, 2026, the Copilot in Windows application will be removed from all university-managed Windows devices. Please transition to Microsoft 365 Copilot.
To help in identifying the Microsoft 365 Copilot application, look for the icon with M365 on top of the Copilot logo, as shown below:
