If you are ever unsure about an email, do not click any links or respond, please forward it to abuse@uwm.edu and our information security team will review it.
Targeted Text Message Scams
During the summer there has been an increase in text message scams related to reviewing your benefit information. If you receive a text message regarding benefits, it is not from UWM or Workday and you should not respond or open anything. UWM will not contact you through text messages regarding benefit information.
Job Scam Emails
With the Fall 2026 semester approaching, there will be an increase in job-related scams targeting students. These often come as email offers for jobs with high pay and short hours with an urgent timeline and a malicious link for “applying”.

Signs of a Scam
- An unknown sender
- Urgent language, short deadlines
- Offers, files, links you were not anticipating
- Job offers, prizes, deals that seem too good to be true
- Request for payment method, personal information or multi-factor authentication (MFA) codes
- Contains odd links or attachments
- References UWM vaguely and without personalization
- Spelling and grammar errors
