MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) is software available to all students, faculty and staff. It is a numerical computing software used for engineering and scientific applications like data analysis, algorithm development and visualization.
License Change and Accessing MATLAB
MATLAB has transitioned from a traditional network (concurrent) licensing model to a named-user licensing system in July 2026.
Under this new model, all UW-Milwaukee MATLAB users must create a free MathWorks account using their UWM credentials. This change assigns licenses to individual users, enabling more personalized access and improved license management across campus. Use our instructions for creating your free MathWorks account.
