Small safety steps can make a huge difference with your online safety. Protect yourself and UWM from online threats with these three steps:
- Use a passphrase (strong password). Instead of a single word with a number at the end consider using a mix of uppercase, lowercase, symbols and numbers to make a longer phrase. The phrase should be something you’ll remember, and adding complex characters will make it more secure. Learn more about passphrases on our data security webpage.
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). All accounts at UWM are required to have MFA, which adds an additional layer of security to your login process to prevent your credentials from being compromised. You can learn more about MFA on our webpage and find links for reviewing or changing your MFA methods (text message, Microsoft Authenticator App, etc.).
- Recognize threats and report them. If you receive a suspicious or concerning email, do not click anything or respond. You can report emails to UWM’s Information Security Office by forwarding them to abuse@uwm.edu. You can also fill out our online form to report cybersecurity incidents.
