The Immunology Laboratory studies the role of Chlamydia pneumoniae in atherosclerosis. Research has shown that persistent infections with this unusual microorganism leads to increased risk for atherosclerosis. Impacts on human cells after infection are examined, with the goal of describing the cascade of events that occur.
