Teaching assistants must complete CETL’s mandatory training program to maintain employment. In addition, other training may be required as determined by your unit, department, and status as an international student. Additional optional training is also available.
Required Training
- All New Graduate Student Training – Required for all new graduate students. Check your Workday account and link above for details and scheduling information.
- CIE: All New International Graduate Student Orientation – Required for all new international graduate students on F-1 or J-1 visas, in addition to other mandatory orientations. See enclosed link for additional information.
- CETL New Teaching Assistant Orientation and Training – Required for all new TAs and those who began employment in the spring semester. This comprehensive orientation includes online components, in-person sessions on the first Fridays of the month throughout the fall, and in-person sessions the second Friday of the month during the spring. - Academic and Departmental Orientations and Training – Your department may require additional training. Contact your advisor or department administrator if you haven’t received information about department-specific requirements.
Additional Training
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) offers ongoing professional development for all graduate students and instructors. Training topics include online teaching, classroom technology, multicultural inclusion and equity, course design, and instructor mentoring. CETL also provides one-on-one consultations, and maintains an extensive library of online teaching resources.
