The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) commission on geoheritage has named the UWM Thomas A. Greene collection one of the 11 most important geological collections in the world. Visit the International Commission on Geoheritage website to learn more.
This designation is given to museum collections that have “high scientific, historical and/or educational relevance for geological sciences” that are worthy of preservation and provide original source research. The designation was bestowed based on the recommendations of more than 700 experts from 80 nations.
The Greene collection is the only one in the United States with this gold standard mark of excellence at this time.
