Documenting the French government’s 2021 repatriation of 26 looted treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey in 1892 to Cotonou, Benin in a ghostly ‘fantasy documentary’ essay that interrogates colonial legacies, Dahomey folds the poetic into the politic to consider questions of cultural reclamation, reparations and the responsibilities of generations at work today in the conservation of these pieces.
