First Gen + Resource Center staff and students at event

Include. Engage. Connect.

UWM operates several different centers to support students in their academic, personal and professional growth, and we aim to enhance students’ knowledge and skills both inside and outside the classroom. UWM is also dedicated to preparing our students to meet workforce demands at the regional, state and global levels. The services provided by these centers play a vital role in helping students deepen their understanding of different perspectives and collaborate more effectively with people from various backgrounds and experiences. The centers regularly collaborate with each other and other campus units to provide exceptional programming and services to students, faculty, staff and the community. The centers and their programs and events are open to all students. Some programs and events may also be open to faculty, staff, and the community.

The First-Generation+ Resource Center is committed to cultivating a welcoming climate and learning environment for all UW-Milwaukee students, with a focus on supporting students whose parents(s) and/or guardian(s) did not graduate from a 4-year college or university in the United States.

We celebrate each student’s unique experience and are committed to excellence by facilitating peer-to-peer connections and encouraging critical reflection through various initiatives, experiences, and partnerships. Our center actively works toward building a campus that welcomes all perspectives, fosters meaningful and challenging dialogue, and connects vibrant global communities.

Centers for Advocacy and Student Engagement

The Centers for Advocacy and Student Engagement (CASE) collaborate to support and advocate for students through comprehensive programs, resources, professional development, and community connections in Milwaukee. Guided by our shared values, we strive to:

  • Advocacy – Engage and uplift the voices of marginalized communities at UWM.
  • Affirmation – Build a community that celebrates and respects students’ diverse experiences, identities, and self-worth.
  • Empowerment – Motivate students to develop agency and control over their college experience.
  • Community Care – Foster belonging and shared responsibility for student success.
The FG+RC is home to three unique programs: U1.0 UW-M First-Generation Program, Lawton Scholars Program, and DREAMERS
MAVRC recognizes the need for support of spouses and children receiving military education benefits in navigating the world of higher education and we work to advocate for this group as well.
Using an intersectional approach to advocate for the agency, education, and empowerment of women-identified students.
A community on campus dedicated to providing social-justice-based education, resources, programming, and support for students of all genders and orientations.
