Although there are not scholarships specific to film studies majors, students are eligible to apply for scholarships open to all College Letters & Science majors. The scholarship process for all students and all scholarships begins with UWM’s Scholarship Portal. Applications are typically collected in January, February and March for scholarships for the following school year. For example, applications are collected January, February, March of 2022 for scholarships to be paid in the 2022-23 school year so you must plan ahead about 6 to 9 months, and students graduating in Spring of 2022 would not be eligible.
You will need to complete the UWM general scholarship application first. If you previously created a general profile, your responses remain on file and you just need to update it once or twice per year. It is to your advantage to fill out the general application completely and thoroughly and keep it up-to-date. The information you provide is used to auto-match you with various scholarships. If you do not have complete information, you will not match to very many opportunities.
Once you complete the general application, the College of Letters & Science application will open up for you to complete. This consists of just one item – upload a copy of your most recent UWM transcript. Be sure to upload a newer transcript each semester.
Many scholarships require no additional application beyond this general scholarship application and uploaded transcript; students are automatically reviewed for these types of scholarships.
You may also see scholarships on your Scholarship Portal dashboard that you can “Apply To.” These are scholarships which do require additional information beyond the general application and uploaded transcript. Read the description and if you believe you qualify, apply to these opportunities too.
