History Brown Bag Series: David DiValerio
November 6 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The UWM History Department’s Brown Bag Lunch Series continues Friday, Nov. 6, with Professor David DiValerio presenting “A Smorgasbord of Syllables: Translating The Scholar’s Feast, an Epic Tibetan History from the 16th Century.”
“The Scholar’s Feast: A History of the Dharma (chos ’byung mkhas pa’i dga’ ston),” by the Second Pawo incarnation, Tsuklak Trengwa (1504–1564/66), is a history of the universe and the most important thing within it: Tibet’s Buddhism. It is also the longest single-author piece of Tibetan literature. Three years in, with more than a decade still to go, this presentation shows the strategies that are being employed to translate this document into English for the first time.
Join us from noon to 1 p.m. in Holton Hall, Room 341. Please bring your own lunch.
