Some content posted by someone from outside UWM is not required to be accessible.

Am I Required To Make Content Posted by Someone Else Accessible?

If content meets the following criteria, it is third party content and is not required to meet WCAG 2.1 AA.

Criteria

  1. If It was posted by a third party on a UWM website or mobile app; and
  2. It was not posted due to contractual, licensing or other arrangements with UWM

Result

If content meets the criteria, it is third party content and not required to be accessible.

Note: You may still have to provide web content in an accessible format if an individual requests it. See the DOJ rule on digital accessibility, paragraph 34.

Examples

  • A comment that a member of the public posts on a page that has comments enabled is not required to be accessible.
  • Content posted on a UWM website posted by a contracted consultant must be accessible.
  • A social media post created by a marketing firm contracted to post content for an initiative campaign must be accessible.
  • A webpage created by a writer hired by a UWM department must be accessible.
