10.26.17 | An Evening with Raoul Peck: Conversations on Identity, History, Race, and Baldwin
The Distinguished Lecture Series welcomes Raoul Peck, award winning film director and writer, for a thought provoking and insightful discussion of his latest film, I Am Not Your Negro. Peck will discuss the film, James Baldwin, and connect the Civil Rights Movement to the issues of segregation, education, and mass incarceration that Milwaukee and so many other places around the world face today.
Peck has created multiple eye-opening and award-winning narratives and documentaries that have screened globally, including Lumumba, Sometimes in April, Man by the Shore and Fatal Assistance. His latest work The Young Karl Marx looks at another key political and historical figure. The totality of Peck’s work demonstrates his deep sense of responsibility towards elevating the conversation about critical current and historic social issues.
