About NCCLA

The North Central Council of Latin Americanists (NCCLA) is a vibrant, interdisciplinary organization, dedicated to research and teaching about Latin America and the Caribbean. NCCLA was organized in 1966 by a group of Latin Americanists from Wisconsin universities. Their charter, adopted the same year, expanded the scope of membership to include faculty and students from public and private institutions of higher learning throughout the upper Midwest. The strength of NCCLA lies in its engaged membership network of eight regional Latin Americanist organizations consisting of academics, students and other professionals from the upper Midwest.

The NCCLA Secretariat is housed at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

NCCLA Membership

Membership in the NCCLA provides Latin Americanists with an important network of colleagues in the region; colleagues whose expertise includes anthropology, economics, fine arts and music, history, geography, political science, sociology, Spanish and Portuguese, and indigenous languages and cultures. In addition, attendance at the yearly Fall conference offers a chance to participate in a choice of multi-disciplinary sessions that deal with Latin American topics of immediate urgency as well as with subjects of more enduring significance.
