Instructors: Session Recording Changes for Collaborate Ultra

The University of Wisconsin System has implemented a new media management process as a cost saving measure to address the increase in Collaborate Ultra (CU) recordings created in response to COVID-19 social distancing requirements.

  • Any synchronous session recording made in Collaborate Ultra will automatically be copied to My Media, the video distribution tool integrated with Canvas, within 24 hours.
  • All synchronous sessions recording made in Collaborate Ultra will automatically be deleted from the Blackboard servers 45 days after the recording is created.

How do I share Collaborate Ultra recordings with my students?

Students can access CU recordings through the “Collaborate Ultra” tab in the Canvas course site for 45 days after the recording is made.

After 24 hours, CU recordings are automatically copied to My Media. In order to provide long-term access to CU recordings, instructors can:

How do I change the way Collaborate Ultra recordings are managed?

Instructors can use the “Course Media Settings” tool in their Canvas course site to remove CU recordings from their personal My Media account, and/or prevent CU recordings from being copied to My Media.

What if I can’t find Collaborate Ultra recordings made in past semesters?

Any CU session recorded in prior semesters has already been copied to your My Media account. The My Media tool can be used to locate Collaborate Ultra recordings made in a specific course site.

Users can recover a Collaborate Ultra recording deleted from Collaborate Ultra by submitting a ticket to Blackboard Collaborate Support within 30 days of the deletion. For more information, see the Recovering Deleted Recordings guide.
