Interests and Expertise

Chronic non-healing wounds constitute a silent epidemic, causing widespread suffering and imposing a substantial economic burden, particularly on vulnerable populations like the elderly and individuals with chronic illnesses. This growing public health crisis often goes unrecognized despite its immense impact on patients and healthcare systems.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan's research program aims to address this silent epidemic by:

  •  Improving outcomes in chronic nonhealing wounds by developing and translating therapeutic strategies.
  • Creating accessible, smartphone-based digital wound assessment tools to enable patients to actively monitor their healing progress and make informed decisions about their care.
  • Designing and implementing novel clinical trials and disseminating clinically relevant patient data on wound healing and health-related quality of life (HRQoL)

Dr. Gopalakrishnan's research program is directly connected to his role as Co-Founder and CEO of Auxillium Health (https://www.auxilliumhealth.ai/), a health tech startup committed to revolutionizing healthcare through Artificial Intelligence. The company's mission mirrors his research focus on chronic non-healing wounds, leveraging Artificial Intelligence to develop groundbreaking solutions for this often overlooked public health crisis.
