There are two main steps for creating a badge. The first step is to write the metadata that provides information to recipients and other stakeholders about what the badge represents and what the recipient did to earn it. Required metadata fields in Badgr include: Name, Description, and Earning Criteria. Optional metadata fields in Badgr include: Standards Alignment, Tags, and Expiration.

Please review the Guide to Creating Badges for additional information on how to write the metadata for your badge.

Issuing Badges

There are multiple ways to issue badges that you create in Badgr. You can automatically issue badges through Canvas if you set up a Canvas course site using modules and requirements (see below). You can manually issue badges to individuals or in bulk through the Badgr platform itself.

When you issue a badge to a recipient, they will receive a notification at the email address you used to issue the badge. Recipients can then choose how to. You may want to provide recipients with a link to the For Recipients page.

Tracking Badges

You can track in multiple places who received badges you’ve issued, depending on whether badges were issued automatically in Canvas or manually through the Badgr platform.
