- BA English, 1998
Mark Briggs has received the 2025 Impact Awardee by the UWM Alumni Association. The award was presented during the Alumni Awards Evening on February 21, 2025, at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.
Mark has used his talents as an athlete, coach and educator to make a difference on and off the basketball court for more than two decades. Mark was a member of UWM’s men’s basketball team in the 1990s, then pursued a basketball career abroad before returning to Milwaukee. He worked as a senior academic advisor with UWM’s GEAR UP Program, a high school basketball coach, program consultant with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, recreation supervisor for Milwaukee Public Schools, and manager of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. In every role, as a mentor and motivator, Mark had an impact on hundreds of young lives. Today, he leads a team of responders at Froedtert Hospital who provide support for victims of gun violence through 414 Life, a partnership between the city of Milwaukee and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He also volunteers as league director for Cream Skills, Milwaukee’s largest summer youth basketball league.
