Maggie Armstrong turned her childhood love of lakes into an international career in freshwater science. After earning her master’s degree from UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences, Armstrong went on to earn two PhDs through a European Union-funded research program and completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in New Zealand. Her research has explored lake health, environmental impacts and strategies for balancing conservation with economic needs.
