2030 Update

2030 Implementation Teams were formed around each of eight priorities in spring 2021. Work on the priorities occurred over the summer and has intensified this fall. Below are some key highlights and progress made to date.

Reassessing Unit Alignment

As part of the 2030 initiative to reduce the number of Schools and Colleges at UWM, The Reassessing Unit Alignment team have advanced proposals to governance for the realignment of several schools and colleges. Names for the re-aligned schools/colleges are currently under consideration.

Three health schools/colleges {College of Nursing (CON), College of Health Sciences (CHS), and the Zilber School of Public Health (ZSPH)} will be reorganized into two colleges. This reorganization will create a concentrated focus on health at the UWM campus. For working purposes, these two Colleges are designated as College A and College B.

College A is composed of the Zilber School of Public Health, Department of Kinesiology (which includes the nutrition program), and the Health Informatics and Administration Programs  – the latter components from the current College of Health Sciences.

College B will bring the Schools of Nursing, Rehabilitation Science and Technology (RST) and BioMedical Sciences (BMS) together, offering the potential for increased and novel collaboration in research, teaching and community service through our diverse programming, students, faculty, academic and university staff.

Three existing UWM Schools (Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, School of Education, and School of Information Studies) will reorganize under a larger college structure. The Department of Urban Planning in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SARUP) will be well placed into the new College.

The School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SARUP) and the Peck School of the Arts (PSOA) have agreed to combine in a new College that will house the two schools, except that the Department of Urban Planning will join a new college, as noted above.

Revising the Curriculum

The Revising Curriculum Implementation Team developed three models of GER Reform (PDF) and have solicited feedback on the models. They anticipate selection of a preferred GER Model before the end of the calendar year. Upon selection and governance of approvals of the preferred model, the team will pivot to GER implementation logistics.

Increasing Diversity and Inclusion

The Increasing Diversity and Inclusion Team developed a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Framework over the summer and are working on the plan implementation . The DEI team is hosting sessions to assist units in development of DEI action plans.

Other Teams

The Becoming Student Centric/Moonshot for Equity Team have developed key organizing principles, Commitment to Students’ Academic Journey, Commitment to Student’s Financial Growth and Security, and Commitment to a Thriving, Inclusive and Engaged Community, to facilitate coordination of efforts across multiple campus units to fully support student success.

The Aligning and Engaging Workforce Team is working to establish the Research and Teaching Professor titles for Academic Staff and Enhanced Development Programs for all UWM faculty and staff.

The Redesigning Research Infrastructure team is examining faculty workload, graduate student support, and research infrastructure.

The Budget Model will be updated sometime after other priorities are set, especially with regards to GER reform and school/college realignment.

The Growing the Endowment team completed a benchmarking study to identify key contributing elements to endowment growth.
