Laurie Marks, PhD, M.Ed

Director
Center for Community-Based Learning, Leadership, and Research

Since 2000 Laurie has worked at UWM with students, faculty, staff and local non-profit agencies to create campus / community partnership for the public good. Laurie works to create meaningful community-based learning programs where students are engaged in making a real difference in the lives of others through service. Laurie is inspired in her work by the dual impact that civic engagement can have on the student identity development, as well as on the community. She is particularly interested in ways in which the field of service-learning and university coordinated co-curricular service can inform students' civic identity and  future leadership roles toward a community action orientation.

Laurie also teaches leadership courses in the Department of Educational Policy and Community Studies for the Education and Leadership Living Learning Community, the Sophomore Living Learning Community, and the Certificate program in Community Leadership.

A lifelong Milwaukeean, Laurie enjoys exploring all of the amazing things that the city has to offer with her wife and kids.
