JoAnne completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Economics from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.  She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  Along the way, she completed her clinical internship at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.  She worked at the SIU Counseling Center and in an outpatient psychiatry department at a large medical clinic before joining the staff at UWM.  She has been fortunate to be a part of the Norris Health Center Counseling Services for many years. Her history at UWM has given her a good understanding of the challenges facing the students here.  Her areas of interest include, but are not limited to, cultural diversity, eating disorders, completing one’s thesis/dissertation, depression, anxiety, relationships, and international students’ adjustment issues.
