Interests & Expertise

Neil Oldridge’s initial research focused on the impact of exercise rehabilitation in persons with coronary heart disease and the related issue of compliance with the intervention. This developed into a specific interest in health-related quality of life as a patient-reported outcome measure; he has developed two health-related quality of life questionnaires for patients with heart disease, the MacNew [1991] and the HeartQoL [2014], which are widely used internationally. Oldridge has been at the forefront of research into the investigation of the cost-effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation services.

Oldridge has been a principal or co-investigator on 28 research grants funded by agencies in Canada, the USA and Europe with more than $7 million in extramural funding between 1972 and 2012.

Oldridge’s teaching experience was focused primarily on a] the examination of the effectiveness of physical activity a] in the prevention and rehabilitation of persons at risk of or with diagnosed coronary heart disease and b] in persons with disabilities and c] chronic disease epidemiology.
