Glendalys Valdes Gonzalez

  • Senior, Journalism, Advertising and Media Studies major

I am honored to be a part of Phi Beta Kappa! I'm a junior at UWM pursuing a degree in Journalism, Advertising and Media Studies with a focus in Journalism and Public Relations. I also completed a minor in International Studies. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and moved to the U.S. approximately six years ago. I chose Journalism because as a Latina, I've experienced misinformation and misrepresentation. As a future journalist, I want to put a spotlight on the members of my community that suffer greatly and expose the issues that disproportionately affect our community.

After so many amazing learning experiences at UWM, including hands-on coursework and becoming a writer/reporter for Media Milwaukee, this past summer, I had the opportunity to work at WISN News as a Newsroom Intern. I also had the chance to be a student worker in the Roberto Hernandez Center which opened its doors for me and all Latino students, offering direction, assistance, and making us all feel welcomed! Also, this summer I will be an intern for ABC News, thanks to the National Association of Hispanic Journalists!

I am really grateful to God, my family, friends, and my professors for guiding me and supporting me through my journey at UWM!
