Edgardo Valdes Gonzalez

  • Senior, Economics major

It is an absolute honor to join Phi Beta Kappa. As a Latino, I have found a place at UWM due to the amazing work of the Roberto Hernandez Center. Through my experience as a student-athlete in a diverse community that fosters mutual respect and tolerance, and accepts cultural differences, I have been able to obtain the critical thinking skills needed to succeed and pursue a major in Economics and a minor in International Studies. Having been born and raised in Puerto Rico, my goal in life is to use my education and my experience at UWM to serve as a bridge between the Hispanic community and society’s systemic barriers to reduce the gap in opportunities and achieve equal treatment and social justice.

UWM Land Acknowledgement: We acknowledge in Milwaukee that we are on traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk and Menominee homeland along the southwest shores of Michigami, North America’s largest system of freshwater lakes, where the Milwaukee, Menominee and Kinnickinnic rivers meet and the people of Wisconsin’s sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida and Mohican nations remain present.   |   To learn more, visit the Electa Quinney Institute website.
