Azaan Edward Haider McCray

  • Junior, Philosophy and Communication double major with a pre-law track

I am honored to be inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. As a Philosophy and Communications major in the Honors College, I have been fortunate to have many opportunities to learn from great professors and partake in enriching extracurricular activities such as writing for The Aggregate with Dr. Ben Schneider. I have been especially grateful to learn from Dr. Ágúst Magnússon who has been very supportive and influential during my studies. He has taught me that Philosophy is more than just a subject in school but a way of life and being. My advising team of Lori Fitzenberger, Gwyn Wallander, and Jennifer Deroche has also provided me with an invaluable support system.

Furthermore, I am grateful to work as a research fellow under Dr. Noelle Chesley and Elizabeth Deiters through the SURF program. I was also honored to be able to present preliminary findings of our research titled “Good” work? Young People's Definition of "Good" Jobs After the COVID-19 Pandemic” at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research in Long Beach, California.

In the future, I plan to attend law school and become an attorney to work toward making systematic changes to benefit those who are overlooked and underrepresented in our society.
