Emily Mae Masmela

  • Senior, Psychology major

I am incredibly honored be a part of Phi Beta Kappa. I am majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology, graduating in the Fall of 2023. I plan to pursue my education into graduate school to earn a master's degree in mental health counseling. I am an advocate for mental health awareness and want to focus my career around helping others by providing empathy and emotional support. I am currently doing a field placement at a pediatric psychology clinic where I work with children who are diagnosed with autism. I am also a part-time nanny and very passionate about working with children. I believe that my extensive experience working with children has shaped me to be a very patient and compassionate individual. I also volunteer for a mental health support line where I take calls for individuals seeking emotional support. This volunteer work has been an excellent, eye-opening experience. This summer I will be studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I worked hard towards my dream of studying abroad and am now making it a reality. I am thrilled to visit Europe and to be exposed to the Spanish culture.
