  • Senior, Microbiology with a Pre-Medicine track

It is truly an honor to be inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society in my senior year. I transferred to UW-Milwaukee from India in 2018 with a major in Microbiology, and it has been an incredible journey since then. Throughout my undergraduate studies at UWM, I was able to take advantage of various opportunities such as grants and scholarships.

As a Burmese immigrant and a first-generation college student, I had to learn everything on my own, but I, fortunately, had mentors and advisors who helped me through every step of the way. I like to thank my advisor, Patricia Cobb, for assisting me in selecting the courses, particularly as a transfer student, and my English instructor, Jennifer Mattson, for helping me navigate college life in a new country. In addition, I have been able to work as a research assistant in many laboratories that fueled my interest in Microbiology and broadened my knowledge of the topic.

I sincerely thank all of my professors and research mentors, particularly Dr. Dave (Dazhong Zhao), Dr. Jian Huang, Dr. Steven Forst, and Dr. Madhushan Dey, for helping me become a better researcher. I plan to continue graduate studies in Microbiology and continue research with a focus on infectious diseases.
