Laurence Devlin Byrne

  • Senior, International Studies and Political Science double major

Looking back at the three years I have spent at UWM and forward at the year I have left, I’ve been more than fortunate to have the experiences and the support system I’ve had. At UWM, I want to thank each of the professors and staff that I’ve had and especially Dr. Jill Budny, Dr. Kristen Trenholm, Andrew Cuneo, Lauren Fleck, Dina Wolf, Haley Zangl, and Christine Wolf. I also want to thank my family and the friends that I’ve made at UWM because without their support I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am today. I have been lucky enough to be a Resident Assistant and intern at G-Strategies and my local government’s Media Production department.

I also have been a part of some great student organizations on campus such as the College Democrats, Phi Sigma Alpha, and National Residence Hall Honorary. I am double majoring in International Studies and Political Science which has both changed and challenged my worldview many times over. During my senior year, I am hoping to study abroad this summer in Seville, Spain, apply to become a peer mentor, undertake a thesis project with the Honors College, and apply to work either with the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. I am both honored and excited to be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa!
