Samawia Akhter

  • Junior, Psychology major

I am so honored to be a part of Phi Beta Kappa. I am a junior, and will be graduating next spring with a major in psychology, a minor in business, and an Honors College degree.

Being part of the Honors College has allowed me to grow as an individual and present on topics I care about, such as when I presented on Islamophobia at the Honors College first annual Race, Justice, and Power Conference. I write poetry as a hobby and am glad I was able to perform a piece I had written as part of my presentation. Dr. Southward has helped me develop my poetry skills and was who encouraged me to participate in this conference. My advisors, Laura Blaska and Kathryn Stupar, have been extremely helpful in navigating my educational path and plans for the future.

I intend to begin a career in the Human Resources field after I graduate. I enjoy studying psychology, as I am extremely interested in human behavior and personality, so I hope to contribute my psychological knowledge to creating a better workplace environment. I also plan to continue writing poetry on the side, and hopefully want to publish my own work one day.

Being acknowledged as a Phi Beta Kappa member is a privilege, and I am very grateful for this opportunity.
