Guest students are students who want to take courses at UWM (either for credit or non-credit), but don’t plan to get a degree from UWM. They’re considered nondegree-seeking students.

Those who should consider applying as a guest student include:

  • Students enrolled at other institutions who want to take classes over summer or winter break, then transfer those credits to their current institution.
  • Students who need to take prerequisites to enroll in a graduate program or professional school, such as medical or law school.
  • Students who already have a bachelor’s degree and want to complete an undergraduate certificate program at UWM.
  • Students who want to take a few courses at UWM for personal or professional enrichment, but don’t want an undergraduate degree from UWM.
  • Auditors who are disabled, or 60 years old or older.

If you want to receive an undergraduate degree from UWM, you should apply as a degree-seeking student. If you’re considering graduate school at UWM, please contact the UWM Graduate School to learn more about required prerequisites before applying as a guest student.
