Course Dates May 28 - June 22, 2024 (First 4-Week Session)
This course builds on our 100-level Spanish classes by helping students continue to develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. Students who are successful in this course have a solid foundation in using the present tense, the preterit, the imperfect, and command forms (mandatos). These topics will each be reviewed in Third-Semester Spanish, but the main emphasis for grammar is on learning to use the subjunctive mood. Vocabulary and cultural topics include history and politics, social media, and interpersonal relationships. Students will work on a culture project that has them creating a travel brochure for a specific city from the Spanish-speaking world with recommendations for visitors. The goal at the end of the course is for students to be able to hold a 10-minute conversation with their instructor talking about things in the past, present, and future. While this course will be taught by one of our program’s instructors, all registration questions should be sent to Dr. Libbey (libbey@uwm.edu).
