Identify and understand the social, cultural and community contexts that contribute to students being placed at-risk. Historically, we have used “at risk” to refer to youth who are not thriving in school. We have traditionally conceptualized “at risk” students in terms of their failures and vulnerabilities. Instead, we will learn how to create school contexts where students are conceptualized in terms of their resiliency, promise, and possibilities.
