This course introduces basic concepts for understanding communication in interpersonal contexts. We’ll take a mindfulness approach to study communication theory and research and apply it to everyday interpersonal interactions in the class. In doing so, we’ll explore a variety of interpersonal communication contexts, including family interactions, interpersonal dynamics, language, listening, nonverbal communication, and romantic relationships, as well as exploring emerging areas such as self-compassion, body positivity, friendships, and “the dark side.”
