Course Type Undergraduate (Milwaukee Campus)

Instructor Allison Libbey
Course Dates June 24 - July 20, 2024 (Second 4-week Session)

This course builds on our SPA 203 course by helping students continue to develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. Students who are successful in this course have a solid foundation in using the present tense, the past tenses, command forms (mandatos), and the subjunctive. SPA 204 reviews some of the biggest trouble spots for students learning Spanish (preterite vs. imperfect, the subjunctive, etc.) and also teaches some new material like the pluscuamperfecto. Vocabulary and cultural topics include entertainment, current events, urban vs. rural, and politics and history. Students will work on a culture project that has them researching and presenting on a cultural topic of their choice. The goal at the end of the course is for students to be able to hold a 15-minute conversation with their instructor in a variety of tenses and about a variety of topics. While this course will be taught by one of our program’s instructors, all registration questions should be sent to Dr. Libbey (libbey@uwm.edu).
